The greatest joy I derive from doing breakthrough golf coaching is using golf as a vehicle for transforming how people show up in other areas of life.
Yesterday my coaching client revealed that he had been conscientiously applying the tools we have been discussing with his family, his girlfriend, and his golf practice. He has been noticing that through his commitment to being physically and emotionally healthy it has positively affected his family. He commented that his mother thanked him for his changed attitude at home and how that has set a wonderful tone for the family. This young man has been a catalyst for beneficial changes in everyone his life touches.
I am reminded of the quote from Goethe that I used to share at the conclusion of every seminar during my Vistage speaking career:
I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element. It is my personal approach that creates the climate, my daily mood that makes the weather. I can be a a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. It is my response that decides whether a person is humanized or dehumanized….
My business partner and I had a conversation where it was clear that one of his corporate clients asks him to just sit in on multi-national phone conferences. His mere presence makes a difference whether he offers input or not.
I invite you to join me today in honoring the “decisive element” that each of us is and to appreciate the “decisive elements” of those people who inspire us.
